Two Gas Energy EquiPartition Evolution 3D This animation shows that, regardless of initial atom energy, all of the atoms' energy distribution form a modified exponential curve according to `f(E)=sqrt(E)*exp(-b*E)` where E is energy and `b =3/(2E_(avg))` and where is the average energy of the atoms. This is true even if the radii and masses of the atom species are different. The initial energies of the red atoms are different from the initial energies of the blue atoms. When the Start button is pushed both red and blue atoms, due to atom-atom collisions take on their normal thermal velocities which means that the energy distribution of each type is the same exponential. The rate of conversion to the exponential function is influenced by the average density of atoms and the sum of the radii of the atoms as well as the average speed of the atoms. The green curve shows f(E) which will be the final energy distribution of both red and blue atoms. Also shown are histograms of the energies of the red and blue atoms. After a long time the histogram curves are expected to match the green theoretical curve. The learner may (within limits) use the Sliders to change the following variables:
